Greek Day in P4/5!

Today had our Greek Day in P4/5. We braved the snow outside to come to school dressed in traditional Greek dress and spent the day immersed in a variety of Greek themed activities. Firstly we spent the early morning designing and painting theatrical masks based on Greek heroes and monsters. While these were drying we rehearsed a version of the story of Pandora's Box which we learned and performed after the lunch break. For this we worked alongside the S4/5 drama class who helped cast and direct the play. We spent the final part of our Greek day eating some traditional Greek foods; humous, stuffed olives, feta cheese and garlic in olive oil. Everyone was very brave and tried something that they had never eaten before.
All in all it was a great day and a fun way of rounding off our look at the legacy of ancient Greece.

Greek Day!

On Tuesday coming, 30th March, Primary 4/5 are having a Greek day. We will be making theatrical masks and performing ancient Greek Myths, making healthy Greek foods and dressing up as ancient Greeks - which is where we need help from our mums and dads! This week we've sent home instructions on how to make different types of Greek dress (most seem to involve old sheets!). We would like all the children in P4/5 to come to school as ancient Greeks on Tuesday if possible. They will need to have trip uniform with them too so that they can run around at playtime without upsetting the Gods (teachers). We will be videoing our plays and posting clips on the blog.
It should be a great fun day. More details will follow!

Keith Haring

Today P4/5 have been working on a joint project with S1/2 art. We've been looking at the work of Keith Haring and his iconic images of dancing figures. We created our own similar figures to display in a grand 'dance' around the walls of the GP room. Watch this space for the results!

Sport Relief Challenge

Today the children in P4-7 ran a distance of two miles for Sport Relief. We left the school at about 9.30 and walked the half mile down to the esplanade. Once there we ran the whole length of the esplanade and back. The children were brilliant and all ran at least some of the distance, although most walked parts too! Cayman in P5 was the first boy finished and Ellie in P7 was the first girl. Excellent effort all round!
We will be taking in the sponsor money before the end of the week and hope to have a significant sum to contribute to the Sport Relief charities.
Well done to all!

Pupil of the Week!

Pupil of the week in P4/5 for this week is Alexander. He has made super progress over the year, is always keen to keep moving on and produces great work in many areas.
Well done Alexander!

Greek Drama!!

Today in P4/5 we have been looking at the 12 gods that the ancient Greeks believed lived on Mount Olympus. We did a co-operative learning group activity where w were exploring the names of the Gods and matching to their symbols and descriptions. All the groups worked hard at a tricky task. Well done :)

Time to Tell the Time!

In maths P4/5 are looking at time. It would be really helpful for this if we could all come to school each day wearing a wristwatch. Preferably with an anologue face. Also, please help by continually asking children what the time is at home.

Food Webs

In science P4/5 have been learning about food chains. Today the pupils were given little cards with the picture and name of a animal or plant and they had to find the other members of their food chain. A noisy activity but very worthwhile.

Book Fair Success!

This week we have had a book fair in school and children have been able to bring some money to buy lots of exciting books. Robert bought a great book about spies. It came with some handy gear for becoming a super spy! Here he is, 'shaken not stirred!'

Sport Relief Run

This term we have less trips in P4/5 as we had more than one a week at times last term. We are, however, in training for a very exciting event - the Sport Relief Challenge! We will be running (or walking!) the esplanade in Greenock on Monday 15th march. Each child will receive a sponsor form and all money raised will go to Sport relief. This should be very exciting! Today we were out in the sunshine walking our route :)

Pupil of the Week!

The Pupil of the Week in P4/5 for the week past is Courtney. Courtney worked exceptionally hard this week and was also very helpful to Mrs Speirs in class. Well done Courtney, a truly deserved award!
