Trips for This Term

Trips for this term will all be on an 'arty' theme. P4/5 will be entering a competition run by Glasgow Museums to paint or draw a response to one of their exhibits. We will be viewing some of these museums and choosing our subjects. Tuesday 17.11.09 Painting masterclass with Graham McKenzie-Smith

Personal Project!

An exciting moment for P4/5 - the first personal project!
Between now and Christmas as part of the homework programme P4/5 need to do a personal project. It needs to include the following things:

1. It should be presented in paper format in a folder or similar.

2. It needs a front cover with title BUT NO NAME.

3. It should have a contents page.

4. It should include text and pictures.

5. It should be on a subject that interests the child.

6. It should be done at home, I'll give it as homework on a Tuesday and Wednesday night but the children can work on it as much as they like.

The date where they will be handed in is Friday 11th December. Mrs Speirs will mark them and there'll be prizes for the winners.

The children are very excited about doing these. If they have any problems or are struggling, please speak to me.

I'm really looking forward to the results!

Gladiators!

Today we had our annual visit from the Gladiator programme. The Gladiators visit the school to promote good dental hygiene and after an activity based on how to look after our teeth we had a chance to go on a huge inflatable slide which was set up in the GP room for the morning.
It was great and was certainly an exhausting way to learn about looking after our teeth!

Science Centre Trip

Well we are back from an exhausting but exciting day at Glasgow Science Centre. We started off by visiting the planetarium and seeing the stars in the night sky. This was great and enjoyed by everyone. Then we moved on to the imax cinema and saw a documentary called 'Under the Sea' This was in 3d which was cool but see life was not quite to everyone's taste!
After a quick lunch we visited the science mall and had a great time experimenting with the hands-on exhibits.
We also met Courtney's dad who works at the Science Centre and was able to join us for lunch. All in all, a good trip and a nice way to end the term. Here are some of the photos of the day.

Yellow Submarine!

This year P4/5 have joined the school choir! It's been great being a part of the choir as we've been practicing three songs related to our 60's topic. Here is one you will all know:

Have fun singing along!

Martin Luther King!

On Wednesday afternoons P4/5 have been working with Mr Atkinson on our 1960's topic. This week we were looking at the life of Martin Luther King and his impact on the civil rights movement. The children have been asked to learn the following lines from the famous 'dream' speech for homework:

‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a
nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but
by the content of their character.'
