Healthy Walk 2
Today, as part of our 'Health and Wellbeing Walks' we were walkig te picturesque route from Lunderston Bay to the Kip Marina and back. All together it covers a distance of around 3 miles along the banks of the Clyde and is often a haven for seals and other wildlife. The only wildlife we saw were from P4-7 who really enjoyed being out in the fresh air!

Cayman and Isabella's Greek Adventure
Last term, P4/5 were looking at the legacy of Ancient Greece. We performed plays, dressed up and ate Greek food. After the term was over for two of the class, Cayman and Isabella, the Greek adventure was only beginning. They went on holiday to Greece! An extra long holiday thanks to an Icelandic volcano that shut the UK's airports. While they were there they visited many places we had talked about at school, including the ancient Parthenon! Luckily, they managed to get home and back to school with stories of a great Greek holiday!

Healthy Walk 1!
Today we completed Healthy Walk number 1. With P6/7 we began our tour of the most scenic and beautiful walks in Inverclyde. Today it was along the esplanade. This is a walk we have obviously done recently with our efforts for Sport Relief but it was a lovely day and very nice to get out along the mile-long walk along the banks of the Clyde. The esplanade is a very poopular place for walkers, joggers and cyclists who enjoy keeping fit along it. Today it was 26 pupils from P4-P7!

Health and Wellbeing Trips April to June
This term, April to June 2010, we are going to be using the (hopefully) good weather and planning some 'healthy walks' on our trip days. This will tie in with many of the Health and Wellbeing outcomes. They will also provide a great way of looking at the beauty of the environment in and around Inverclyde. The dates are outlined below. For each walk the children should come to school in trip uniform, always with a waterproof jacket and sturdy shoes suitable for walking the route for that day. They should also bring snacks and plenty of juice or water. On some of the days they may also require a packed lunch. For some of these days we will be joined by P6/7. These should be great fun and we look forward to putting some great photos on the blog!

Greek Day in P4/5!
Today had our Greek Day in P4/5. We braved the snow outside to come to school dressed in traditional Greek dress and spent the day immersed in a variety of Greek themed activities. Firstly we spent the early morning designing and painting theatrical masks based on Greek heroes and monsters. While these were drying we rehearsed a version of the story of Pandora's Box which we learned and performed after the lunch break. For this we worked alongside the S4/5 drama class who helped cast and direct the play. We spent the final part of our Greek day eating some traditional Greek foods; humous, stuffed olives, feta cheese and garlic in olive oil. Everyone was very brave and tried something that they had never eaten before.
All in all it was a great day and a fun way of rounding off our look at the legacy of ancient Greece.

Greek Day!
On Tuesday coming, 30th March, Primary 4/5 are having a Greek day. We will be making theatrical masks and performing ancient Greek Myths, making healthy Greek foods and dressing up as ancient Greeks - which is where we need help from our mums and dads! This week we've sent home instructions on how to make different types of Greek dress (most seem to involve old sheets!). We would like all the children in P4/5 to come to school as ancient Greeks on Tuesday if possible. They will need to have trip uniform with them too so that they can run around at playtime without upsetting the Gods (teachers). We will be videoing our plays and posting clips on the blog.
It should be a great fun day. More details will follow!

Sport Relief Challenge
Today the children in P4-7 ran a distance of two miles for Sport Relief. We left the school at about 9.30 and walked the half mile down to the esplanade. Once there we ran the whole length of the esplanade and back. The children were brilliant and all ran at least some of the distance, although most walked parts too! Cayman in P5 was the first boy finished and Ellie in P7 was the first girl. Excellent effort all round!
We will be taking in the sponsor money before the end of the week and hope to have a significant sum to contribute to the Sport Relief charities.
Well done to all!
